Caladiums have been a part of Galveston landscapes since the 1800s and are still  valued today for their colorful spring-summer display. Preserving our gardening heritage is an important role of the Galveston Garden Club and we are pleased to offer some of the most highly adapted cultivars at this year’s Caladium Sale.  These selections have stood the test of time, with excellent performance for the Upper Texas Gulf Coast. In addition to their adaptability, the Garden Club has worked with our supplier to provide the larger “Mammoth” sized caladium bulbs (corms), not commonly available from retailers. This larger size promotes rapid establishment, prolific growth, and more beautiful leaves throughout the season.

A bag of 4 mammoth caladium bulbs is $23.   A drought and two hurricanes in Florida caused a shortage of these large bulbs, so we had to substitute costlier, patented cultivars this year.  Because of the increased cost, we are selling 4 mammoth bulbs per order, but invariably there are some extra smaller bulbs included in our order and we'll add those to your order.  We intend to return to our regular prices next year.

Elephant Ears $11 for one 9"-11"bulb.  Elephant Ears boast immense, spectacular foliage for planting in full sun to partial shade. These bulbs are excellent additions to the landscape or when planted in large containers.  We're offering two cultivars this year.  Both are heavily branching and our grower says their crop this year is looking especially good. Elephant ears are like teenagers--they need regular feeding. We recommend a time release fertilizer like the Osmacote that we sell

LA Lilies are a cross between longiflorum lilies and Asiatic hybrids.  They combine the trumpet shape and longer vase life of longiforums with warmer flower colors and upright facing flowers of the Asiatics.  Full sun to partial shade.  Blooms seven weeks after planting. Grows 36"-40" tall, will grow up through shrubs. Better performance year 2 and on. Ten bulbs for $12.

Fancy Leaf Caladiums have large heart shaped leaves.  Strap Leaf Caladiums have smaller, spear shaped leaves and they tend to produce more leaves, making them good for window boxes and planters.  Straps tend to be more sun tolerant.
